John Deere D105

The D105 was a great entry mower, and plenty capable for any new homeowner that is cutting a small lawn. It is powered by a reliable 17.5 horse Briggs and Stratton engine and features a 42” mower deck. The weak point of this tractor and many low end tractors is the transaxle. It used a General Transmission RT400 transaxle, which honestly is weak. It has a plastic case, and is largely unserviceable. If anything happened to it, unless you knew what you were doing, it would be cheaper to just buy a new mower.

This didn’t stop me as I had great luck with it for the few years I had it. It had no problem hauling pallets around, dethatching an acre yard, and even pulling a lawn sweeper. I sold it though to get my X580, and now I wish I still had it for content purposes.
